How to restart a computer through an Audit Agent

Use an Audit Agent to restart a Windows, Linux, or macOS computer remotely. The agent retrieves the request through its outbound connection to AlloyScan, so unlike the Reboot tool, this method requires no direct network access from your workstation to the computer.

Prerequisites

  • Administrator access to the Site and a valid AlloyScan license.
  • The agent must be running and able to communicate with AlloyScan to process the request.

IMPORTANT: Restarting the computer can cause unsaved work to be lost.

Queue a restart

  1. Open Admin Center > Tasks and services > Audit agents.
  2. Open the target agent.
  3. Select the Remote tasks tab.
  4. Under Restart host, review the computer name and the unsaved-work warning.
  5. Click Queue restart.
  6. Follow the task in the agent's history or open Admin Center > Logs > Remote tasks.

The request is queued for agent processing. Queuing does not confirm that the computer has restarted.

Check the outcome

Succeeded confirms that the computer has restarted. For the full status list, see remote restart statuses.

For OutcomeUnknown, review task details and agent connectivity before considering another request. A later boot confirmation can change the outcome to Succeeded.

Cancel a queued restart

A restart can be canceled only while its status is Pending or Preparing. Once the task reaches Restarting, cancellation is unavailable.
