How to monitor active tasks

This guide shows you how to see what scan and audit work AlloyScan is currently running for a Site, and how to spot a queue that is starting to back up.

The Active tasks queue is the live view of every Scan and Audit task that is queued or executing in the Site. Every ad-hoc scan, ad-hoc audit, scheduled run, and segment-import flows through it. Watching the queue is part of routine health-checking; long backlogs correlate with slow Dashboard widget refresh and with delayed audit results.

Prerequisites

  • You are signed in as a Site Administrator. Site Users see a read-only version of the page.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Admin Center > Site Settings > Tasks and services > Active tasks.
  2. Read the live grid. Each row is one in-flight task.
Column Meaning
Device / Resource The target the task is acting on (a device, a Segment scope, or a cloud resource).
Task Task identifier (Scan #NNN, Audit #NNN).
Start date When the task entered the queue. Sorted descending by default.
Scope Segment or device set covered by the task.
Initiator The user who triggered the task, or Schedule for scheduled runs.
Status Live status — Queued, Running, and so on. Terminal states (Finished, Cancelled) move out of this view into the Scan log / Audit log.

Health-check signals

Signal What it usually means
Queue empty most of the time Steady state — schedules and ad-hoc runs are draining as expected.
Persistent dozens of queued tasks An Audit Service host is overloaded or has gone offline; tasks pile up waiting for capacity.
One task in Running for hours A specific target is unreachable or a script is hung. Open the row to see the scope.
Dashboard widgets visibly slow to refresh Often correlates with a saturated Active tasks queue. Check the queue first before deeper troubleshooting.

When to take action

  • Pile-up. Stagger schedules so that big audit runs do not stack on the same minute. Add a second Audit Service host on the Site if the load is persistent.
  • Stuck task. Use How to cancel a task to remove it from the queue.
  • Dashboard slowness. Active tasks is the first place to look. Once the queue drains, widget refresh returns to normal.
