Application paths
A tag from the catalog can land on a device through three paths:
| Path | Trigger | Configured by |
|---|---|---|
| Manual | Operator opens the device's Audit tab → Credentials and tags panel → Tags combobox and picks the tag. | Site Administrator or Site User. |
| Segment auto-tag | New device discovered on a Segment that has the Auto tag option set. | Site Administrator (per Segment). |
| Audit Agent auto-tag | Device audited through an Audit Agent whose site-level Auto tag setting is on. | Site Administrator (Admin Center > Site Settings > Settings > Audit agent settings). |
A device can carry many tags. Each tag application bumps the catalog's Usage count for that tag by one.
Removing a tag from a device
Operators remove a single tag from a single device by clicking the × on the tag pill on the device's Audit tab. The catalog entry and all other devices' assignments are unaffected.
Removing a tag from the catalog
Deleting a tag from Tag management removes the pill from every device that carried it. Devices keep their other tags.
Constraints
- Tags are per-Site. A tag in one Site is not visible in another Site.
- The full color palette may vary by deployment. Treat the four observed colors as a baseline.
- Auto-tagging applies on next discovery or audit; it does not back-fill devices already in the inventory.
