How to use the Ignore List
This guide shows you how to add devices to a segment's Ignore List so that they are excluded from subsequent scans and audits, and how to restore them later.
Prerequisites
- Site Administrator role (moving devices to the Ignore List is Administrator-only).
- A segment that has scanned at least once and has discovered devices in Scan Results.
Steps
Move discovered devices to the Ignore List
- Navigate to Network > Segments and click the segment name to open its detail view.
- In the Scan Results grid, tick the checkboxes next to the devices you want to exclude.
- Click Move to Ignore list in the toolbar.
-
AlloyScan asks which identifier attribute to use for the Ignore List entry:
- NetBIOS: Stable Windows NetBIOS name.
- DNS: Stable DNS hostname.
- MAC address: Stable hardware identifier -- best for printers and switches.
- IP address: Use only if the IP is reserved or static; warned as potentially non-stable.
-
Confirm the choice. AlloyScan removes the rows from Scan Results and adds the chosen identifier to the segment's Ignore List.
Edit the Ignore List directly
- Open the segment's Ignore List from the Segment Open view.
- Add or remove identifiers, one per line. Lines that start with
#are treated as comments.
Verify
After confirming, the Ignored nodes counter on the Last scan statistics panel increments, and the device no longer appears in Scan Results. Run a fresh scan to confirm the device is also absent from the new results.
To restore a device, edit the segment's Ignore List and remove the identifier line. The device reappears on the next scan.
