Dashboard Widgets Reference

Dashboard widgets are visual blocks available to add to saved dashboards. The same widget can be used on more than one dashboard, while each dashboard stores its own widget placement and size. AlloyScan provides Analytics widgets and system widgets.

Widget types

Type What it shows Notes
Analytics widget A widget based on a saved Analytics chart that can be added to dashboards. Grouped under Chart, Counters, or Table in the Add widget panel according to its saved visualization type.
System widget A ready-made AlloyScan widget that can be added to dashboards. 18 fixed system widgets are available outside Analytics: Site health and 17 additional presets.

Analytics widgets

Analytics widgets make saved Analytics charts available to add to dashboards. The Add widget panel separates them by their saved visualization: graphical Analytics charts appear under Chart, counters under Counters, and Analytics charts that use the Table visualization under Table. A category appears only when at least one Analytics chart uses that visualization. If no matching Analytics charts exist, the category is omitted from the panel.

AlloyScan includes 20 Analytics widgets out of the box. User-created saved Analytics charts also become available to add to dashboards as Analytics widgets.

Create or update user-created charts in Analytics. Manage their placement on each dashboard from Dashboard edit mode.

The Add widget panel includes All widgets and groups Analytics widgets under Chart, Counters, or Table when matching Analytics charts exist. System contains the 18 ready-made system widgets. Add an available widget by dragging it from the panel onto the current dashboard. A widget that is already on that dashboard remains in the panel, but appears dimmed and cannot be added to the same dashboard again. It remains available on other dashboards.

System widgets

AlloyScan provides 18 system widgets: Site health and 17 additional presets for common inventory, audit, hardware, software, virtualization, update, and security summaries. System widgets are dashboard-only presets available to add to dashboards: they do not appear in Analytics and cannot be opened in or customized with the Analytics chart builder.

System widgets use smart, purpose-specific grouping and presentation logic to keep their results readable. For example, Devices by audit date shows recent audit dates as Today, Yesterday, 2 days ago, and 3 days ago, then combines earlier dates under Older. This grouping is built into the widget rather than configured through Analytics.

The System category contains:

System widget
Computers by CPU
Computers by memory
Computers by operating system
Computers with free disk space
Devices by audit date
Devices not audited
Domain membership
Hardware Aging Analysis
Network adapters
Private IP ranges
Recently added software
Security Overview
Site health
System Uptime Analysis
TPM and BitLocker status
User Activity Analysis
Virtualization Overview
Windows updates count

Each system widget can be added once to each dashboard. Apart from the period selector in Devices not audited and Recently added software, system-widget content and settings are fixed. Administrators can still add, move, resize, or remove a system widget as part of each dashboard layout.

Analytics widget actions

In Dashboard edit mode, Analytics widgets expose these actions:

Remove widget Removes the widget from the current dashboard.

Analytics widgets in the widget palette can also be opened in Analytics from the palette.

Constraints

  • Dashboard layout editing is available to Administrators.
  • Users can view dashboards and switch dashboards, but cannot edit dashboard layouts.
  • Dashboard editing requires a wide browser window. If the window is too narrow, AlloyScan disables add, move, resize, and remove actions until the window is wider.
  • A widget can appear once on each dashboard and can be added to other dashboards.
  • Analytics widgets can be out-of-the-box widgets or widgets based on saved Analytics charts.
