How to install an Audit Service

This guide shows you how to install an Audit Service inside your network so that AlloyScan can perform agentless discovery and audit of reachable devices.

Prerequisites

  • Site Administrator role.
  • A Windows host that meets the Audit Service requirements:
  • Windows Server 2016 or later (production) or Windows 10 or later (evaluation).
  • .NET Framework 4.8.1 or later.
  • PowerShell 5.1.
  • Outbound HTTPS (TCP 443) from the host to the AlloyScan instance.
  • Inbound and outbound network paths from the host to the targets you intend to scan and audit. See Required Ports Reference.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Admin Center > Site Settings > Tasks and services > Audit services, or Network > Audit services.
  2. Click + Install to download the installer.
  3. Copy the installer to the intended Windows host and run it.
  4. Follow the installer prompts to complete setup. The Audit Service registers itself with the AlloyScan instance during the first heartbeat.
  5. Return to Admin Center > Site Settings > Tasks and services > Audit services. The new service appears in the list.
  6. (Optional) Open Admin Center > Site Settings > Settings > Audit service settings and review the Inactivity period value. The default is 30 days — Audit Services with no heartbeat for that period are automatically scheduled for deletion.
  7. (Optional) If you plan to use the service to audit AWS or Azure cloud resources, enable Allow module installation on audit service host on the same settings page.

If the host cannot reach the AlloyScan instance over HTTPS/443, the service will not register. Open outbound 443 first.

Verify

After installation, the Audit Service appears in Admin Center > Site Settings > Tasks and services > Audit services with a Last active timestamp close to the current time and a state of Active. Open the service's detail modal to confirm its Client ID, Host name, IP address, and Registration date.

You can now assign the service to a Segment when creating or editing it. See How to create an Address list segment.
