How to export and import audit snapshots

Export and import audit snapshots when you need to transfer the complete audited data for selected devices. A snapshot contains the hardware, software, and configuration data collected during an audit.

Snapshot transfer is particularly useful for troubleshooting. If a device shows unexpected hardware, software, or configuration values in Inventory, export its snapshot and provide it to Alloy Support. Support can import the snapshot into a test environment to inspect the same audited data and reproduce the issue without connecting to the original device.

Prerequisites

  • You have access to the Inventory grid you want to use.

Export selected snapshots to JSON

  1. Navigate to Inventory > <device type> and open the grid.
  2. Select one or more rows.
  3. Select Export on the grid toolbar.
  4. Choose Export snapshots for selected rows (JSON).
  5. Check the downloaded file.

When you export one snapshot, AlloyScan downloads a JSON file. When you export multiple snapshots, AlloyScan downloads an audit-data.zip archive.

Import snapshots from JSON

  1. Open an Inventory grid.
  2. Select Import snapshots (JSON) on the grid toolbar.
  3. In the file picker, select one or more JSON snapshot files.
  4. Monitor the progress while AlloyScan processes the files sequentially.
  5. If a file fails, select Skip to continue with the next file or Cancel to stop the import.

IMPORTANT: Importing a snapshot does not configure future audits or keep the device data up to date. Configure the appropriate audit method and schedule if the device must continue receiving new audit data.

Download audit data from a device

To download audit data for one device from its form:

  1. Open the device form. See How to find a device.
  2. Select the Audit tab.
  3. In the Debug information panel, select Data or Raw data.

The downloaded file contains data for the snapshot identified by the Audit ID.

Verify

After an export, verify that the JSON file or audit-data.zip archive appears in your browser's download location.

After an import, find the imported device in Inventory and check its Audit tab. The Audit source identifies imported snapshots as Import.
