About Analytics
Analytics is the AlloyScan module for building saved charts from audited site data. You can open saved charts in the Analytics area to review them on their own, or add them to dashboards as Analytics widgets.
Use Analytics when you want a reusable visual summary of inventory, cloud, or device-component data.
How Analytics works
An Analytics chart starts with a data source. AlloyScan provides source groups for audited devices, cloud resources, and device components. After you choose a source, the chart builder opens with a live preview and a Chart Settings panel.
The chart builder lets you:
- Choose a chart type.
- Name the chart.
- Select fields to display.
- Group records with Group By.
- Configure the chart metric.
- Add embedded filters.
- Adjust colors, displayed values, percentages, and axis labels.
- Save the chart so it appears in the Analytics list.
The preview updates as you change chart settings. There is no separate preview command.
Where Analytics charts are used
Saved Analytics charts can be opened from the Analytics list. When a chart is open, use the runtime controls above the visualization to change the date field, time range, runtime filters, and view mode. You can review the chart as a visualization, summarized data, or raw data, and export the currently selected mode.
Analytics charts can also appear on dashboards as Analytics widgets. Add them from the Dashboard widget palette while customising a dashboard.
Role differences
- Administrators can create, save, and modify Analytics charts.
- Users can open Analytics and build or view charts interactively, but cannot save new charts or save changes to existing charts.
Key distinctions
- Analytics vs Dashboard. Analytics is where charts are built and saved. Dashboard is where selected saved charts can be monitored as widgets.
- Analytics vs Reports. Analytics produces interactive visual summaries. Reports produce document-style output for review, printing, export, or custom report design.
- Dashboard widget vs chart editor. Build and save Analytics charts in Analytics. Add saved charts to dashboards from the Dashboard widget palette.
