Choose your first inventory path

Before you create your first inventory, choose the collection path that matches the assets you need to cover first.

All three paths feed the same AlloyScan Inventory.

Option 1: Internal network with an Audit Service

Choose this path when you need to inventory devices reachable from inside your network.

Use it for:

  • Windows, Linux, and macOS computers on the office network
  • servers
  • SNMP devices such as printers and switches
  • VMware ESXi hosts and other hypervisor targets
  • address ranges, subnets, DNS names, or Active Directory domain computers

You will:

  1. Install or select an Audit Service.
  2. Create an Address list or Domain Segment.
  3. Add credentials to the Audit Service's credentials pool.
  4. Run a scan.
  5. Audit selected devices.

Start here: Run your first scan and audit.

Option 2: Remote endpoints with Audit Agents

Choose this path when the endpoint is not reliably reachable from the internal network.

Use it for:

  • laptops
  • remote workers
  • offsite computers
  • endpoints outside the Active Directory domain or workgroup devices that cannot be reached by the Audit Service

You will:

  1. Open Network > Audit agents.
  2. Download or copy the agent installer link.
  3. Install the Audit Agent on the endpoint.
  4. Wait for the first audit to arrive.
  5. Verify the device in Inventory.

Start here: Deploy an Audit Agent on a Windows endpoint.

Option 3: Cloud resources with a cloud Segment

Choose this path when you need inventory from AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

Use it for:

  • AWS resources such as EC2 instances, AMIs, Subnets, VPCs, S3 buckets, RDS, load balancers, security groups, key pairs, and network interfaces
  • Azure resources such as virtual machines, load balancers, network interfaces, resource groups, subscriptions, virtual networks, volumes, and security groups
  • Google Cloud resources such as VM instances, images, load balancers, public IPs, subnets, VPCs, volumes, and Bigtable resources

You will:

  1. Confirm that cloud Segments are enabled for your deployment.
  2. Select or install an Audit Service for cloud script execution.
  3. Add the matching AWS, Azure, or Google credential.
  4. Create the cloud Segment.
  5. Run a scan and review cloud Inventory sections.

Start here: Create your first cloud inventory.
