Setting system performance

Introduced in 2025

The General > System Performance section allows you to view the status of the full-text search functionality and configure how unavailable workflow actions are displayed in the user interface.

Full-Text Search

Full-text search is always enabled in Alloy Navigator, provided that your Microsoft SQL Server installation includes the Full-Text Search component. This feature allows Alloy Navigator to perform high-speed and linguistically intelligent searches across supported text fields, delivering faster and more relevant search results.

INFO: For details on the full-text search functionality, see Microsoft documentation, for example, Full-Text Search.

ClosedClick here to view the list of Alloy Navigator objects and text fields where the full-text search functionality is used.

  • Activities: Details (the text of the Activity displayed on the Activity tab and in the Details section of the Activity window)

  • Change Requests: Description, Summary, Notes

  • History: Old Value

  • Incidents:Description, Summary, Notes, Resolution

  • KB Articles:Title, Content (the text version of the KB Article displayed on the Article Content tab), Notes

  • Problems: Description, Summary, Notes

  • Service Requests:Description, Summary, Notes

  • Work Orders:Description, Summary, Notes

NOTE: The current version of Alloy Navigator does not use the full-text search functionality for any other text fields, including user-defined fields (UDFs). For details on UDFs, see Working with user-defined fields.

If your Microsoft SQL Server installation does not include the Full-Text Search component, the feature will be unavailable, and a corresponding warning will be displayed.

Workflow Action Display

The availability of workflow Step Actions is controlled by the user's security roles, the object’s type, and the object's status. In addition, some Steps may have additional criteria that control when the Step is available.

NOTE: You manage the availability of a Step on the Condition tab of the Step [ID] window. For details, see Configuring Steps.

Depending on the type of the object and effective permissions of the current user, some of the Steps are unavailable, and Alloy Navigator does not display commands for those Steps to the user. At the same time, some of available Steps may be disabled due to the status of the current object and/or the additional criteria.

Under Workflow action display, you can specify whether to display dimmed commands for disabled Step Actions in the Actions menu and the Action Bar or hide those commands from users.

NOTE: The Workflow action display option does not affect the visibility of Step Actions controlled by the user's security roles or the object's type.

To hide unavailable Step Actions from users:

  1. Click Show only available actions, hide unavailable ones.

  2. Click Save.

To display unavailable Step Actions as disabled (dimmed):

  1. Click Show all actions, dim unavailable ones.

  2. Click Save.

For your changes to take effect, you and other users must restart the Desktop App and start a new Web App session.
