Viewing external calendar events in My Calendar
Introduced in 2024.2
You can add personal calendars, such as Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Microsoft Outlook Calendar, to My Calendar and view your appointments, meetings, and other events in Alloy Navigator Express alongside everything else. To do this, obtain the iCal URL from your personal calendar and add it to My Calendar. The standard iCalendar format ensures all your important dates are conveniently displayed in one place.
NOTE: My Calendar does not allow you to re-schedule events in your external calendar or make any other changes to them; you can only view their dates and titles.
Locate iCal feed URL in your personal calendar
First, you need to locate the iCal feed URL in your personal calendar. This is a link that allows other applications to access and display the events from that calendar in a standardized format. It is based on the iCalendar standard (with the .ics file extension) that enables calendar data to be shared across different platforms.
The location varies depending on the calendar.
Outlook calendar
To locate an iCal feed URL in your Outlook Calendar, click the gear icon to access and Settings > Shared calendars > Publish a calendar. Then select your calendar, choose the level of detail to see in Alloy Navigator Express, and click Publish. Use the ISC link.
TIP: The Outlook (Desktop App) itself does not generate an iCal feed for external sharing. However, you can get an iCal link if your calendar is connected to an Outlook.com or Microsoft 365 account, as described above.
Google calendar
To locate an iCal feed URL in your Google Calendar, go to Calendar settings > Integrate calendar. For a public calendar, use the Public address in iCal format value. For a private calendar, you should use the Secret address in iCal format link.
Apple (iCloud) calendar
To locate an iCal feed URL in your Apple (iClod) Calendar in a web browser, go to the calendar, click the Sharing icon for the calendar you want to publish, select the Public Calendar checkbox and click Copy URL to Clipboard.
Add your iCal feed URL to My Calendar
When you have the iCal link available, add in to My Calendar.
To publish your external calendar to My Calendar:
-
Access My Calendar (go to My Work > My Calendar).
-
Expand the Other Calendars pane in the right side bar under the mini-calendar and click Add calendar.
-
In the Add new calendar pane, paste your iCal feed URL into the Link field. For details, see Locate iCal feed URL in your personal calendar above.
-
Enter a name for your calendar and choose a color the calendar events will have in Alloy Navigator Express.
- Click Create.
NOTE: Use the checkbox next to your calendar name to enable or disable the display of external events.
