Reports

Alloy Navigator delivers a rich set of pre-packaged reports and charts covering all major data categories, including Service Desk Tickets, Configuration Items, Persons, Organizations, Networks, Purchase Orders, etc. The open architecture of Alloy Navigator database allows you to customize any pre-packaged report or create new reports from scratch.

NOTE: Do not confuse these summary and detail reports with "quick reports," which are printouts of grid contents. For details, see Printing grids.

There are two groups of reports:

  • Summary Reports - A summary report contains summary information about all records of a particular object class, such as Incidents, Work Orders, Computers, Persons, etc. For details, see Summary Reports.

  • Detail Reports - A detail report displays the details of a single record, such as a particular Work Order or Computer. For details, see Detail Reports.

Report format and required software

Alloy Navigator supports Microsoft’s Report Definition Language (RDL) format, which allows you to use Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). Working with RDL reports (also called Microsoft Report Builder reports) requires that the appropriate software is installed on your computer:

To run (i.e., view and print) reports, you need Microsoft Report Viewer for SQL Server 2016 Runtime or later. This component is installed together with Alloy Navigator.

NOTE: Microsoft Report Viewer for SQL Server 2016 Runtime requires the Microsoft System CLR Types for SQL Server 2016 component, which also comes with Alloy Navigator.

Custom RDL reports

  • You can create your custom RDL reports or customize our default reports, and then import your custom report files to Alloy Navigator. To develop custom reports outside Alloy Navigator, use Microsoft Report Builder 2016 or later. You can download the software from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53613.

  • Custom reports must be based on Alloy Navigator data and use embedded connection. The type of embedded connection to Alloy Navigator data must be Microsoft SQL Server.
