Configuring a Links widget

A Links widget displays a collection of links to internal and external resources. This widget can include both pre-configured links, such as a link to the Alloy Software Web page, and custom links, such as links to files (including shortcuts to applications), folders, hyperlinks to HTML pages on the Internet or Intranet.

You specify properties of a new Links widget or modify properties of an existing widget of this type using the Links Widget Properties window.

NOTE: For details on initial steps of widget creation or modification, see Creating widgets or Modifying widgets.

Links Widget Properties window

The Widget tab of this window contains the following fields and controls:

General section - specifies general properties of the widget:

Name - the "internal" name of the widget, which identifies it in widget lists.

Title - the widget title, which will be actually displayed in dashboards.

Allow to minimize widget - specifies whether users can minimize this widget.

Links section - allows you to manage the list of links displayed within the widget:

    • To add a link, click New. In the Link Type field, select either "Custom Link", if you want to define the link by yourself, or one of the pre-defined links. For custom links, in the Link field, specify the link that can be a reference to a file (including executable ones), a location within a file, a folder, an HTML page on the Internet or Intranet. Optionally, you can enter or edit the link caption in the Caption field. Click OK.

    • To modify a link, select it, click Edit, change the link properties as needed, and click OK.

    • To rearrange items within the widget, use the Move Up and Move Down buttons.

    • To delete a link, select it in the list and click Delete.

Display Properties section - specify the number of lines to display in the widget:

Number of lines to display - effectively determines the widget height:

      • To limit the height of the link list, enter the number of lines to show. The widget will automatically add a scroll bar when the number of links in the list exceeds the specified height. The height will be reduced automatically when the number of links is less than the specified height.

      • To let the widget adjust its height automatically to show all links, click display all.

The Dashboards tab of the Links List Widget Properties window allows you to view the list of dashboards where the widget is used. For details, see Viewing dashboards where a widget is used.
