Installation Guide

Upgrade Alloy Navigator Enterprise components

Updated in 2021.2

Upgrade from version 8 or later

The Alloy Installer detects Alloy Navigator Enterprise products installed on the local computer and updates them to the latest 2023.2.x version.

For example, if you run the installer on the computer where the Alloy Navigator Automation Server is installed, the installer will update server components of Alloy Navigator. If you run this installer on an IIS server hosting the Alloy Navigator Web App, Self Service Portal, and the API module, the installer will update all web applications.

Depending on your configuration, run the Alloy Installer on the following computers:

  • Alloy Navigator Automation Server — The server computer hosting Alloy Automation Server.

  • Alloy Navigator Web Server — The IIS server hosting the Web App, Self Service Portal, and the API module. If you have web applications installed on separate web servers, run the Alloy Installer on every web server.

  • Alloy Discovery Inventory Server — The server computer hosting Alloy Inventory Server. If you have several Inventory Server instances for your Alloy Discovery, run the Alloy Installer on every server computer.

ABOUT TECHNICIANS' WORKSTATIONS: Typically, you do not need to run the installer on computers hosting client components, i.e., the desktop apps and administrative tools. The Automatic Upgrade feature makes sure that client components are updated automatically. For details, see Upgrade client components for technicians.

To upgrade Alloy Navigator Enterprise products to the most recent version:

  1. Run the Alloy Installer.

By default, the installer extracts its temporary files to the C:\AlloyNavigator-23.2.x.cd folder. If the folder does not exist, the installer will create it.

NOTE: If you want to change the destination folder, click Browse and make a new temporary folder for installation files.

TIP: When you need to upgrade Alloy Navigator Enterprise components on multiple computers, you can copy this folder to a network share and then run the AlloyInstaller.exe file from there. If no longer needed, this folder and its content can be manually removed after the upgrade has finished.

  2. Click Extract. When the files are extracted, the Welcome page appears.

  3. On the Welcome page, click Upgrade Existing Products. The Products to Upgrade page opens.

  4. The installer lists the existing Alloy Navigator Enterprise products installed on your local computer. Click Next to proceed. The Upgrade Prerequisites page opens.

  5. The installer analyzes your computer, and test for prerequisites. If any of the tests fail, the installer displays a warning message along with a hyperlink, which shows additional information about the encountered issue.

You can make the necessary changes and then recheck the prerequisites by clicking Recheck.

IMPORTANT: Do not continue with the upgrade until all prerequisites are satisfied. For the system requirements, see Server machine requirements.

  6. Click Upgrade to start the upgrade process. Optionally, you can go back and change your settings as needed by clicking Back.

IMPORTANT: Please close all running applications before starting the upgrade process.

The installer begins upgrading all required software automatically.

  7. When the installer completes the upgrade process, the installer may show the Run the Database Management to upgrade the existing Alloy Navigator / Alloy Discovery database check boxes. Keep them selected and click Finish. The Database Management tool starts.

TIP: If you do not want to upgrade your databases right now, clear the Run the Database Management to upgrade the existing Alloy Navigator / Alloy Discovery database check boxes before clicking Finish.
