Creating segments
Segments define which parts of your network or cloud environment AlloyScan scans to automatically discover and then audit your IT assets. Before you can run any scans, you need to create at least one segment.
A segment is a logical unit of your infrastructure. Examples include an Active Directory domain, a LAN or other on-prem network zone, or cloud resources such as an AWS or Azure environment.
To scan a segment and audit the devices or resources discovered within it, AlloyScan uses an Audit Service, a Windows service responsible for performing scans and collecting data. When you create a segment, you select the Audit Service that will handle that segment and specify the credentials it will use.
AlloyScan supports the following segment types:
-
Domain: A specific Active Directory domain
-
Address list: A subnet, an IP address range, or individual devices identified by IP address, DNS name, or NetBIOS name
-
AWS: Your Amazon Web Services environment (currently in preview)
-
Azure: Your Microsoft Azure environment (currently in preview)
NOTE: The ability to scan and audit AWS and Azure resources is currently in preview. Features in preview may change or evolve over time.
