Modifying charts
Introduced in 2025.2
You can change the visualization style, data selection, and output formatting of an existing chart using the Chart Settings panel. The panel appears on the right when a chart is opened from the Reports > Analytics section.
If a chart is not your personal one, select Save As first to create a personal copy. This allows you to work freely without affecting other users. You can also use Save As to create new charts based on existing ones.
The Chart Settings panel contains several tabs. This topic describes the General, Filter, and Options tabs. To learn about sharing options, see Sharing charts.
General tab
The General tab is where you define the chart’s structure and visual format. Any changes you make are reflected immediately in the preview. If you make adjustments and want to undo them, a Reset button appears in the upper-right corner, allowing you to revert to the chart’s original configuration.
Name
Specifies the chart title, which appears both in the Analytics list and at the top of the chart window. Renaming the chart can help clarify its purpose, especially if you are working with customized versions.
Chart type
Choose how the data is displayed. The following chart types are available:
-
Vertical bar: Compares values across categories; useful for workload distribution or volume comparisons.
-
Horizontal bar: Similar to vertical bar charts but often clearer when category labels are long.
-
Line: Shows changes over time; best for trends or patterns across days, weeks, or months.
-
Area: Similar to line charts, but filled to emphasize volume or cumulative change.
-
Donut: Highlights the proportion each group contributes to the whole, with a more compact center layout.
-
Pie: Another proportional view, useful for showing the relative size of categories at a glance.
-
Table: Displays grouped results in a structured list instead of a visual graph.
You can switch chart types at any time, and the preview updates instantly so you can see how the data works in different formats.
Available properties to display
This section lists Data fields available for use in the chart.
You can select More to browse and add additional fields from the dataset.
Each selected field appears with a drag handle that allows you to re-order fields or drag them into Group By or Metric.
Display
This section allows you to configure how the chart summarizes and organizes data:
-
Group By: Defines how records are categorized. In bar and line chart types, Group By defines the X-axis - the categories displayed along the bottom of the chart.
Depending on the dataset, you can group by fields such as name, type, location, category, date, or other attributes. Multiple Group By fields can be added, allowing you to create nested or multi-level groupings.
Use the drag handles to reorder the grouping hierarchy.
-
Metric: Determines what is being measured. In bar and line chart types, Group By defines the Y-axis, the value scale displayed along the left side.
Most charts use count of records, but numeric fields allow calculations such as sum, average, minimum, or maximum.
Only one metric can be active at a time. To change it, drag a different numeric field from Data Fields into the Metric area, and the new value will automatically replace the existing metric.
Filter tab
The Filter tab controls which records are included in the chart. Filters determine the scope of the data being analyzed and displayed. When you add or modify filters, the chart updates immediately across all viewing modes.
A filter consists of a field, a condition, and one or more values. For example, you may filter by Status, Assigned Group, Category, Location, or any other field available in the chart’s dataset. The list of available fields varies depending on the type of records behind the chart.
You can add multiple filters. These can be combined using And to narrow results, or Or to broaden the criteria.
Each filter row has controls for:
-
Clone: Duplicates an existing filter entry, which is helpful when building similar conditions.
-
Delete: Removes the selected filter.
Options tab
The Options tab controls the visual presentation of the chart. These settings do not change which records are included or how data is calculated; instead, they adjust how the chart looks and how information is displayed to make the chart easier to read and interpret.
Color
Select the color theme used in the chart. This affects bar fills, line colors, segment colors in pies and donuts, and category series in multi-group charts. This can be helpful when making charts easier to read, aligning charts to organizational styles, or distinguishing multiple versions of similar charts.
Display options
The Display options section provides controls for what additional information is shown directly on the chart:
-
Show chart name: Displays the chart title above the visualization. This is useful when exporting or sharing charts or when comparing multiple charts side-by-side.
-
Show values: Displays numeric values directly on individual bars, points, or slices. This makes comparisons more precise without switching to Summarized Data mode.
-
Show as percentages (pie and donut): When enabled, pie and donut charts display each segment as a percentage of the whole rather than using raw values. This is helpful when you want to emphasize proportion rather than absolute counts.
