Configuring Inventory Data Mapping

Alloy Navigator Express uses inventory data mapping when importing audit snapshots from the Network Inventory component. Inventory data processing may involve the following operations:

  • Creating Computer records for computers discovered in Network Inventory;

  • Creating Inventory Item records for network devices discovered in Network Inventory;

  • Creating Person records for computer users;

    NOTE: When attempting to match user information from Network Inventory to Person records in Alloy Navigator Express, the Person Matching Algorithm is used. For details on that algorithm, see Person Matching Algorithm.

  • Creating Location records for user departments;

  • Creating Organization records for user companies;

  • Updating existing Computer and Inventory Item records with the audit data from Network Inventory;

  • Deleting original Network Inventory records when their Computer and Inventory Item records are retired;

  • Synchronizing the Software Catalog with the Software Catalog from Network Inventory;

  • Tracking installed software and monitoring Software License Compliance.

    INFO: For details on the last two operations, see How to Monitor Software Licensing Compliance.

All imported snapshot attributes correspond to Computers’ and Inventory Items’ fields in accordance with the configured mapping rules. The default mapping is usually sufficient, but you can modify or delete the default mapping rules, create new rules, and restore the default mapping in the Settings.

IMPORTANT: The Network Inventory Synchronization runs on the Automation Server, which must be properly configured and started. For details, see Automation Server.
