Managing the Network Inventory Software Catalog

The Software Catalog is a repository of software products that is based on the information collected during the audit. The Software Catalog helps you take control over your company’s software inventory and allows you to track software products efficiently.

You manage the Software Catalog in Network Inventory console (Tools > Software Catalog). In Alloy Navigator Express Desktop App (Tools > Software Catalog), you can only view product records.

The Settings enables you to perform the following administrative tasks for managing software catalog:

  • Avoid tracking various alternative spellings of software manufacture names by creating aliases associated with a single primary record for each manufacturer. For details, see Managing Software Manufacturers.
  • Specify the default software group for all newly created Software Products. In Network Inventory console, you will review discovered products and optionally re-classify them by assigning each product to a certain software group.

INFO: For details, see the Network Inventory User’s Guide: Classification of Software Products.

  • Classify the software products by assigning each product to a certain software group. For details, see Managing Software Groups.
  • Classify the software products by assigning each product to a certain software category. For details, Managing Software Categories.
