Exporting or importing software products

You can export multiple Software Products to an .xml file for reuse or backup purposes. You can restore the Software Catalog or transfer it to another database by importing the Software Products into the target database.

Exporting software products

You can export a set of the Software Products from your database.

To export Software Products to an .xml file:

  1. In the Software Catalog, select the record(s) to export.

  1. Right-click the selected record(s) and choose Export/Import > Export Selected Products from the pop-up menu. The Software Catalog Export Wizard starts. Click Next.

  2. On the Specify the export file page, browse to the location where you want to save the .xml file:

    • To export the Software Products to a new file, specify its location and the file name, and click Next.

    • To export the Software Products to an existing file, select this file, click Next, and choose whether to append the new data to the .xml file or replace the contents of the .xml file with the new data.

  3. On the File description page, optionally type in a description. Click Next.

  4. On the Ready to export page, review the file name. If you want to change any of the settings, you can go back to the previous pages by clicking Back. To start exporting, click Export.

  5. When Network Inventory informs that the export has completed successfully, click OK.

Importing software products

You can import a set of Software Products that was previously exported to an .xml file.

To import Software Products from an .xml file:

  1. Right-click anywhere in the grid and choose Export/Import > Import Products from the pop-up menu.

  2. Browse for the .xml file containing the Software Products and click Open.

  3. When Network Inventory informs that the import has completed successfully, click OK.
