Understanding Accounts

Accounts and security roles are used in conjunction with each other to control user access to Alloy Navigator Express. Each user must have an Alloy Navigator Express account.

Types of Accounts

There are following types of accounts in Alloy Navigator Express:

  • Technician — Technician accounts are user accounts for technical staff members who work with Alloy Navigator Express via the Web App, the Desktop App, the Network Inventory application, or the Mobile App. The number and type of Technician accounts you can create depends on your product license.

  • SSP Customer — SSP Customer accounts are user accounts created for end-users who access Alloy Navigator Express’ modules through the Self Service Portal (SSP). SSP Customer accounts do not count against your product license, so you can create an unlimited number of these accounts.

Types of Authentication

Authentication type determines how the system validates account credentials supports both Windows authentication and Standard authentication.

  • Windows Authentication — with Windows Authentication, users do not need to type their user name and password to log in because the system applies their current Windows credentials. This authentication method can be used only in Windows domain-based networks.

    NOTE: In the Mobile App, this Windows authentication mechanism works differently than in a Windows environment. Mobile App users have to type their Windows domain user account name and password to sign in using their Windows credentials. For details, see Mobile App User's Guide: Signing in to the Mobile App.

  • Standard Authentication — with Standard Authentication, each user has to type a user name and password to log in. Authentication takes place by matching supplied credentials against accounts residing in the database. Standard authentication can be used in any network.
