Creating hierarchy of Organization records

Organization records are organized in the hierarchical tree. You can build a hierarchy of subordinate Organizations for each parent Organization to reflect the actual structure of the parent organization.

When you are viewing the tree of Organizations, the Organizations that have subordinate Organizations are marked with the Expand icon on the left. Clicking this icon expands the node and shows the subordinate Organizations. To view all subordinate Organizations in the tree, right-click anywhere on the tree and select View > Expand All from the pop-up menu. To collapse the expanded Organizations, right-click and select View > Collapse All.

You manage the hierarchy of Organization records by using the workflow actions configured by your Alloy Navigator administrator.

Typically, the following workflow actions are available for creating Organization records:

• Organization - creates a new Organization record at the top level of the hierarchy.

• Sub-Organization - creates a subordinate Organization record within the currently selected Organization.

NOTE: To select the record in the grid - use the check box on the left.

To move Organizations in the hierarchial tree, you can use the following actions that are typically available in the Relationships group:

• Move To - moves the selected Organizations together with their subordinate Organizations in the tree and makes these Organizations subordinate to the Organization of your choice. To move multiple Organizations at once, select these Organizations in the tree (for details, see Selecting multiple records), choose Actions > Relationships > Move to on the Module menu, and specify the target Organization in the action window. If the selected Organizations were at different levels in the hierarchy, after the move they will be all at the same level inside the parent Organization.

• Move to Top Level - moves the selected Organizations together with their subordinate Organizations to the top level or the hierarchical tree. This action is available for subordinate Organizations only. To move multiple Organizations at once, select these Organizations in the tree (for details, see Selecting multiple records) and choose Actions > Relationships > Move to Top Level on the Module menu. If the selected Organizations were at different levels in the hierarchy, after the move they will all be at the top level.
