Alloy Navigator is shipped with an extensive set of reports representing various kinds of information from the database in a convenient form. Reports can be run by technicians, from the Web App or Desktop App. However, as an administrator, you can schedule reports to run automatically at specified intervals. Scheduled reports can be generated in various output formats and saved to a local or network computer or sent via email.
NOTE: For more information on reports, see the Reports.
You should configure a reporting job for every report you want to schedule. You configure reporting jobs in the Services > Scheduled Reports section. The section includes the following subsections:
IMPORTANT: All automated jobs are run by the Automation Server, a tool that is shipped with Alloy Navigator and registered as a Windows service. You should configure and start the Automation Server prior to configuring reporting jobs. For more information, see Starting and stopping the Automation Server.
The actual auto-generation of scheduled reports is performed by the Standalone Reporting Module, a command-line utility that is used for silently generating Alloy Navigator reports without starting the Desktop App. The Reporting Module is installed in Alloy Navigator’s installation folder (typically,
C:\Program Files\Alloy Software\Alloy Navigator\Bin). The executable file name is
ReportCmd.exe. When a reporting job runs, it calls the Reporting Module and passes to it necessary parameters for generating a report.
NOTE: For more information on the Standalone Reporting Module and its parameters, see the Reporting Module.
Configuring settings is mandatory to start using the reporting functionality. For more information, see Configuring reporting settings.
IMPORTANT: If you want scheduled reports to be automatically sent via e-mail, you first have to make sure that outgoing e-mail notification settings are properly configured. For more information, see Configuring and Controlling Outgoing Notifications.
