Viewing license usage statistics and the tracked software summary

Alloy Navigator calculates usage statistics for each of your licenses, so you can see how many license entitlements you have used and how many are available, or how many are required. A license entitlement represents your right to install and use the software product in accordance with the license agreement.

Usage numbers are displayed in the Summary section of the Software License details dialog box as follows:

  • License Quantity displays the maximum number of license entitlements based on the licensing agreement. This field displays the value specified in the License Quantity field of the License Compliance Rules section.
  • Reconciled displays the number of reconciled allocations, i.e. the number of detected installations of the software product on computers where the license was allocated to. Both reconciled and unreconciled allocations are listed on the Allocation tab of the Software License details dialog box.

NOTE: For licenses covered by the "tracking by user" policy this value is not displayed.

  • Unreconciled Allocations displays the number of unreconciled allocations, i.e. the number of computers or devices allocated for the license, but where no installations of the software product were detected. Both reconciled and unreconciled allocations are listed on the Allocation tab of the Software License record.

NOTE: For licenses covered by the "tracking by user" policy this value is not displayed.

  • Upgraded displays the number of allocations of software licenses, that are marked as upgrades for the current license. You can view the list of license upgrades on the Upgrades tab of the Software License record.
  • Used displays the number of used license entitlements. Alloy Navigator calculates this value as the total number of allocations of the license and the number of allocations of its upgrades.
  • Available displays the number of available license entitlements, i.e. the number of available installations or upgrades of the license. Alloy Navigator calculates this value as the difference between License Quantity and Used. When the number of used license entitlements exceeds the license quantity, the Required value appears here instead.
  • Required displays the number of required license entitlements to cover the shortage. This value is displayed only when Used exceeds License Quantity.

NOTE: For a Software License, the Reconciled, Unreconciled Allocations, Upgraded, Used, and Available fields show “0” even if the license was allocated to Computers or Hardware devices before the retirement of the license.

As you can see, the Tracked Software details dialog box displays usage statistics similar to those displayed by the Software License details dialog box. However, there are some additional values:

  • Discovered displays the number of discovered installations of all Software Products listed in the Products section of the Tracked Software. You can view the list of computers and hardware devices where these installations were found on the Discovered Installations tab of the Tracked Software details dialog box.

NOTE: For licenses covered by the "tracking by user" policy this value is not displayed.

  • Unreconciled Installations displays the number of unreconciled installations of the Software Products listed in the Products section of the Tracked Software, i.e. the total number of discovered software installations of these products that have not been reconciled to their licenses. This value is calculated as the difference between the total number of discovered installations of Software Products associated with the Tracked Software (the Discovered value) and the total number of reconciled allocations of all Software Licenses associated with the Tracked Software (the Reconciled value).

NOTE: For licenses covered by the "tracking by user" policy this value is not displayed.

  • Required displays the total number of required license entitlements to cover all unreconciled installations of Software Products associated with the Tracked Software as well as the shortage of all Software Licenses associated with the Tracked Software. Alloy Navigator calculates this value as the sum of Unreconciled Installations and the sum of Required values for all Software Licenses listed in the Licenses section of the Tracked Software details dialog box.

Other values displayed in the Summary section of the Tracked Software details dialog box are aggregated from corresponding values of Software Licenses associated with this Tracked Software.

NOTE: If a Tracked Software is associated with a license that has a non-tracking policy, usage details for such Tracked Software will be unavailable. For details, see Configuring Software Licenses.
