Creating and Modifying Dashboards

You can create a new dashboard or modify an existing one as follows:

  1. From the Sidebar, navigate to General > Dashboard Management > Dashboards. To create a new dashboard, click New. To modify an existing dashboard, select it and click Edit. The Dashboard Designer dialog box opens.
  2. Under Properties, specify a name for the dashboard.
  3. Configure the layout:

A dashboard’s layout is a grid of cells, i.e. a combination of rows and columns. You add widgets to the dashboard by placing them into layout cells. A newly created dashboard has a predetermined layout consisting of three cells. You can modify the dashboard layout manually, or you can apply one of reusable layouts.

    • To apply one of reusable layouts to the dashboard, click Select Layout. The Select Layout dialog box opens. Click one of layout icons, then click OK.

IMPORTANT: Layouts must be configured prior to creating a dashboard.

    • To modify the current layout, click Edit Layout. For details on configuring layouts, see Creating and Modifying Dashboard Layouts.

NOTE: When you modify a dashboard’s layout, this does not affect any of reusable layouts. All modifications you make will remain local to that dashboard.

  4. After having configured the layout, specify dashboard’s content by adding various widgets to layout cells:
    • Add widgets that will be displayed in the dashboard by default. To do this, just drag-and-drop widgets from the widget list on the left to layout cells.

IMPORTANT: Widgets must be created prior to creating a dashboard. For details, see Creating and Modifying Dashboard Widgets.

    • Optionally, specify widgets that should be available to technicians when they make local customizations of the dashboard in the Desktop App. You can use check boxes in the widget list to make your selection. Or, you can right-click a widget in the list and choose Mark Available from the context menu.

When you mark a widget available, it appears on the Available tab of the widget list. Here, you can quickly review all widgets that are available within the dashboard. If you want to exclude a widget, click next to its name.

IMPORTANT: If you want to allow technicians to personalize the dashboard in the Desktop App, you must grant them the corresponding security permission. For more information, see Understanding Security Roles.

    • Optionally, rearrange widgets on the dashboard. You can grab widgets by the title bar and move them from one cell to another, or remove them from the dashboard.
  5. Click Save.

NOTE: You can also create a dashboard by copying an existing one and then modifying the copy as needed. For details, see Copying Dashboards.

NOTE: To make a new dashboard available to technicians, assign it to appropriate security roles. For details, see Assigning Dashboards to Security Roles. Security role members will get access to the new dashboard when they refresh the dashboard by pressing F5 or restart the Desktop App or the Web App.
