Importing the Database Access Key

The Database Access Key is a unique key generated when the Alloy Discovery administrator creates the database. To access the Alloy Discovery database, every technician must have a registered copy of this key, imported to the local computer. Your Alloy Discovery administrator can distribute the key as a reg file or as a randomized string of characters.
You import using the Access Key Import window to import the Database Access Key to your local computer.
To import the Database Access Key:
- Depending on the module you are working with, open the Access Key Import window as follows:
- For the Desktop App or Settings:
Launch your desktop app.
In the Log in to Alloy Discovery window, click Manage Connections to open the Connection Manager.
In the Connection Manager window, under Access Key, click Import.
- For the Inventory Server:
Launch the Inventory Server Manager.
Under Connection, click Import Key.

In the Access Key Import window, import your Database Access Key as follows:

To import a .reg file, click Load from File, browse to the .reg key file, and click Open.

To import an encoded string of characters, paste the previously copied string to the Access Key Content field.

Click Import. Alloy Discovery imports the key to your local computer and closes the Access Key Import window.

In the Connection Manager window, click Test Connection to verify the connection using the imported key.

Click OK.

Use the Access Key Import window to import the Database Access Key to your local computer, to review information about the key, or to copy the key content to the Clipboard.
TIP: To access the Access Key Import window, click Import in the Connection Manager

Access Key Content - the content of the Database Access Key. To import the key as a string of characters, paste this string into this field to import the key to your local computer.
TIP: If you need to pass the Database Access Key to a teammate or to your other computer, you can copy the content of this field and then run the Connection Manager on the target computer and paste the key into this field.

Load from File - imports the key as a .reg file.

Access Key Details - the information about the Database Access Key:

Name - the key name

Authentication - the authentication that the Database Account uses

Login - the login name of the Database Account (the SQL Server login used to connect to the database)

SQL Server - the name of the SQL Server hosting the database

Database - the database name

Creation Date - the date when this key was created

Import - imports the Database Access Key to your local computer.
