Customizing report layouts
Customizing report layouts requires a designer tool (for details, see Supported formats and required software). For Microsoft Report Builder reports supported by Alloy Discovery, you need Microsoft Report Builder 2.0 or later or Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (or later) with the Business Intelligence Projects plug-in. To customize a pre-packaged report, use Microsoft Report Builder 3.0.
Customizing reports from outside of Alloy Discovery
This method implies that you save the layout of a report to an external report file, make your changes using the appropriate designer tool, and then replace the report with the customized report file.
To customize a report layout:
-
On the main menu, click Reports > Reports and open a desired report category from the Categories pane.
-
Save the layout of your report to a report file as follows:
-
In the Reports grid, right-click the report and choose Save As from the pop-up menu.
-
Browse for the destination folder where you want to save the file. By default, the file name is the same as the report name. If you want to change it, type in a new name in the File name field.
-
Click Save.
-
Open the saved report file in your report designer tool and modify the report layout as needed. For details, see your reporting software documentation.
-
Save your changes.
-
In Alloy Discovery, go back to the Reports component and replace the report with your report file as follows:
-
In the Reports grid, right-click the report and choose Replace from the pop-up menu.
-
Select the source report file and click Open.
