Licensing models

Alloy Discovery supports two models for the User Access license: Concurrent Users and Named Users. Your product license can be based on a fixed licensing model, or you can have a combined product license that combines those two models.

To view your licensing model:

  1. Go to General > License Information.

  2. Review the Named Users and Concurrent Users values.

    • If you have the N/A value in the Named Users field and a number in the Concurrent Users field, your license supports only Concurrent Users model. The number of concurrent users is the limit of concurrent user sessions.

    • If you have a number in the Named Users field and the N/A value in the Concurrent Users field, your license supports only Named Users model. The number of named users is the limit of accounts you can create.

    • If both the Named Users and Concurrent Users field display significant values, you have a combined product license that supports both licensing models. The number of named users is the limit of named accounts you can create, the number of concurrent users is the limit of concurrent user sessions under concurrent accounts.

In addition, you can view your license information under Accounts and Roles > User Sessions > Summary, in the Licensed column.

Concurrent Users

The Concurrent Users model implies that each user working with the software at any given time requires an individual user access license.

The license limits the total number of all users logged in together, i.e. the number of concurrent user sessions that can be established in Alloy Discovery. The number of accounts that you can create is unlimited.

Named Users

The Named Users model implies that each user that works with Alloy Discovery requires an individual user access license whether that user is currently using the system or not.

The license limits the number of accounts that can be created. Users can always access Alloy Discovery, regardless of the number of other currently logged in users.

Combined License

A Combined License combines two licensing models: you can create a fixed number of named accounts and as many concurrents accounts as you need. The license has two limits: the number of named accounts that you can create and the number of sessions that your users can simultaneously establish in Alloy Discovery under concurrent accounts.

  • Named – The license limits the number of named accounts that you can create. Use named accounts for IT managers and administrators who need permanent access to Alloy Discovery, no matter how many other users are currently logged in.

  • Concurrent – The license limits the maximum number of concurrent users at a time. Use concurrent accounts for users who do not need permanent access to Alloy Discovery, such as IT personnel in different time zones or shift workers.
