Audit agent settings
This page describes the settings that control how AlloyScan manages audit agents. These settings help you keep your audit environment accurate and free of obsolete records by automatically handling audit agents that are no longer active.
From this section of the Admin Center, you can:
-
Define an inactivity period to determine how long audit agents can remain inactive before AlloyScan schedules them for deletion.
-
Manage the configuration in JSON format, using options to import, export, or edit the settings directly.
- Define a default tag that is automatically applied to every computer audited by an agent deployed after this configuration is set.
Inactivity period
The Inactivity period setting controls how long AlloyScan retains audit agents that are no longer active.
Audit agents that haven't reported activity begin to accumulate inactive days. Once the duration you set in the Inactivity period field is exceeded, AlloyScan schedules the agent for deletion. If it remains inactive for another full inactivity period, AlloyScan then deletes it automatically. If the agent comes back online before the second period ends, it will uninstall itself at that point. This way, the system stays clean without removing components that were only offline temporarily.
Example: With a 30-day inactivity period specified, an inactive audit agent is scheduled for deletion after 30 days. If it remains offline for another 30 days, it is deleted. If it returns within that window, it will instead uninstall itself and avoid the scheduled deletion.
Managing audit agent configuration in JSON format
At the top of the page, you can find an Import JSON button, and under the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner, you can access additional JSON options: Export JSON and Edit as JSON. These tools allow administrators to work with settings in a more technical and detailed manner.
-
Import JSON: Use this option to upload configuration data from a JSON file. This is useful when restoring a configuration from backup or applying settings consistently across multiple environments.
-
Export JSON: Click Export JSON to save the current audit agent configuration as a JSON file. This makes it easier to back up your configuration or share it with other administrators.
-
Edit as JSON: If you prefer direct, technical control over the settings, use Edit as JSON to open the configuration in raw JSON format.
Default tag assignment for newly audited devices
The Audit agent auto tag setting lets you define a default tag that is automatically applied to every computer audited by an agent deployed after this configuration is set. This is especially useful in large environments where manually tagging devices one by one would be time-consuming.
By assigning an auto-tag, you ensure that all newly audited computers immediately receive the correct classification, such as location, device type, or department, without requiring any additional steps from administrators. This helps maintain consistent tagging across the organization and supports easier filtering, reporting, and segmentation in Inventory.
Just like segment-based auto-tags (see Tagging records), the agent auto-tag is fully editable later. You can remove or change the tag on any device directly in the Inventory.
To create a new tag:
-
Enter a name for the tag.
-
Click Save.
