The Web Configuration tool is a tool for configuring Alloy Navigator Express web applications:

• Web App
• Self Service Portal
• API module

Typically, Alloy Navigator Express web applications are installed on a web server computer separately from the Alloy Navigator Express server. Once a web application is installed, the Web Configuration tool starts to help you deploy and configure it. You can also use the Web Configuration tool to modify the initial configuration, create new instances, and delete deployed instances when they are no longer needed. You can deploy multiple instances of application on the web server.

To start the Web Configuration tool on the web server, select the Web Configuration tool icon from the Alloy Control Panel. Alternatively, you can start the Web Configuration tool from the Start menu: Start > Alloy Software >Web Configuration.

The Web Configuration tool's sidebar on the left hand side displays the list of sites and virtual directories on your web server, indicated with the gray ball icon. The sidebar does not display your Alloy Navigator Express applications or API instances until you configure them.

Once a web application is configured, its site or virtual directory appears in the sidebar, indicated with an individual blue icon next to its name. The main pane on the right hand shows the configuration information, including the URL, the physical path, the user authentication type, the Alloy Navigator Express database, and all other settings. Configuration information is broken down into three groups:

• Database - This section contains the Database Access key settings that define how the web application instance accesses the Alloy Navigator Express database.

• Web - This section contains the deployment (installation) settings such as the description, URL, site name, physical path to the files, etc., and the selected user authentication type. In addition, this section enables you to replace the dummy address used in workflow notifications with the real address of your Web App and Self Service Portal.

• Features - This section contains settings that define the appearance and behavior of the web application such as which logo image to display on each page of the Web App, which Alloy Navigator Express modules and language packs to provide for Self Service Portal users, etc.

You can view all settings and modify any of them, or you can view and modify only a portion of settings from a specific group.

• To modify any configuration settings of a deployed instance:

  1. In the sidebar, select the instance you want to customize.

  2. Click Configure at the top of the main pane on the right hand side. The Database page opens. Go through all pages to view all settings and make your changes.
     
     Alternatively, you can choose Configure Portal > Full from the pop-up menu.

• To modify Database settings:

  1. In the sidebar, select the instance you want to customize.

  2. In the Database section of the main pane on the right hand side, click Configure. The Database page opens. Go through available pages to view the database settings and make your changes.
     
     Alternatively, you can choose Configure Portal > Database from the pop-up menu.

• To modify Web settings:

  1. In the sidebar, select the instance you want to customize.

  2. In the Web section of the main pane on the right hand side, click Configure. The Web page opens. Go through available pages to view the deployment settings and make your changes.
     
     Alternatively, you can choose Configure Portal > Web from the pop-up menu.

• To modify Features settings:

  1. In the sidebar, select the instance you want to customize.

  2. In the Features section of the main pane on the right hand side, click Configure. The Features page opens. Go through available pages to view the features and make your changes.
     
     Alternatively, you can choose Configure Portal > Features from the pop-up menu.

Additional Web Configuration tasks

Using the Web Configuration tool, you can also perform these tasks:

• To create a new instance of a web application:

  • Choose File > Create > [Web Application] from the main menu. The Database page opens. Go through all pages to deploy a new instance of your web application to the desired location.

  Alternatively, you can choose Create > [Web Application] from the pop-up menu.
  
  You can have multiple web applications per database.

• To delete an instance:

  • Select the web application to delete and choose Delete Portal from the pop-up menu.

• To restart an application pool of a portal:

  • Select the web application to restart and choose Restart Portal from the pop-up menu.

• To refresh the display:

  • Select the web application to restart and choose Refresh from the pop-up menu or Press F5.

• To display this Help file:

  • Choose Help > Help Contents from the main menu.

• To display the error log:

  When any errors occur, the Web Configuration tool reports that there are some errors logged, and the Error Logs section at the bottom of the main pane becomes enabled.

  • To view the log file, click View Details.

  • To clear the log file, click Clear.

• To display debug information:

  • If your web application does not work as expected and you need to send the debug information to our Support Team, choose Help > Debug Information from the main menu. The Web Configuration tool will generate the WebConfigDebugInfo.txt file and open it in Notepad.
