Software Installation window

The Software Installation window displays the details of discovered installation of a Software Product on a Computer and/or license allocation to a Computer or a Inventory Item. These records show the links between Computer (or Inventory Item), Software Product, and Software License records.

The information is organized in the following sections:

Computer section - appears if the Software Product is installed on a computer. This section displays the basic data about the Computer where the Software Product was discovered and/or where the Software License was allocated: the Computer's ID, Name, Organization, Owner, and Location. When these fields are filled out (except for ID) their captions become links. Clicking these links opens corresponding records in separate windows.

Inventory Item section - appears if the Software Product is installed on a Inventory Item. This section displays the basic data about the Inventory Item where the Software License was allocated: the Inventory Item's ID, Name, Owner, Organization, and Location. When these fields are filled out (except for ID) their captions become links. Clicking these links opens corresponding records in separate windows.

Discovered Installation section - shows the information about the discovered Software Product. When this window is opened from the Discovered Installation tab of either a Software Product, or Tracked Software, or Computer, the Install Key and Serial Num fields are editable, so that you can alter these values for better tracking license compliance. When the Product Name and Manufacturer fields are filled out, clicking their captions opens the Software Product and Manufacturer correspondingly in separate windows. If this window shows the license allocation on the Computer or Inventory Item without discovered installation of the corresponding Software Product, this section is blank.

Licensing and Tracking section - includes the following fields and controls:

  • Software License - the name of the allocated Software License. When this field is filled out, clicking its caption opens the Software License in a separate window. This field is blank if the window shows the details of discovered installation where no Software License is allocated.

  • Allocation Date - the date when the Software License was allocated. When this window is open from the Allocated Licenses tab of a Computer or Tracked Software, or the Allocation tab of a Software License, or the Software tab of a Inventory Item record, you can alter this date manually for better tracking the license compliance.

  • Deallocate automatically - when this check box is selected, this Software License will be deallocated from this Computer if this Software Product is not found installed on this Computer when new audit data is uploaded. You can edit this check box when this window is open from the Allocated Licenses tab of a Computer or Tracked Software, or the Allocation tab of a Software License, or the Software tab of a Inventory Item record.
