Software Discovery
In the Software Discovery section you specify whether to collect the software information and where to discover software installations during the audit.

To disable the software discovery and use the audit profile to collect only hardware information and operating system details, click No software discovery.

To collect hardware information, operating system details, and information for software products, click Discover installed software. Software will be identified using registry conditions of software recognition rules. Depending on the computer’s operating system, the Inventory Analyzer can use the following sources of installation information:

Windows computers - Windows Inventory Analyzer collects the installation information from the Uninstall section of the registry. You can see these products listed under "Products and Features".

Linux computers - Linux Inventory Analyzer collects the installation information from the package management system.

macOS computers - Mac Inventory Analyzer collects products installed as an application bundle.

To collect hardware information, operating system details, information for software products, and additionally search all files on the local hard drives, click Discover installed software and recognize software in files. Software will be identified using the file conditions of software recognition rules. The operation is a time consuming but essential for recognizing software products.
NOTE: This option is applicable for Windows computers only; when auditing Linux and Mac computers this option is ignored.
