Target object was modified or removed

Symptoms

When you attempt to save your changes, one of these error messages may appear.

You cannot perform this action because the target object was modified or removed.

You cannot perform this action because the object was modified by another user or process.

You cannot save the changes because the target object was modified or removed.

Cause

These errors are the same issue. The issue occurs when another user changed the same object while you were making your changes.

NOTE: If you were working with the Action Form (i.e. performing the workflow action), the "You cannot perform this action" error message appears. If you were making direct changes using the object's Full Form, Alloy Navigator Express shows the "You cannot save the changes" error.

Resolution

Unfortunately, your changes will be lost as soon as you close the form. You can do the following:

1. Note the changes you have made. If you want to save the text you have typed, copy it to the Clipboard.

2. Close the form.

3. Refresh the view (press F5) to get the updates made by the other user.

4. Make sure that your changes are still compatible and retry, if appropriate.
