Defining software categories

The Network Inventory >Software Catalog >Software Categories section allows you to classify software products by assigning each product to a certain software category (for details, see Network Inventory Help: Classification of software products).

You manage software categories as follows:

• To add a software category:

  1. Go to the Network Inventory >Software Catalog >Software Categories, click New. The New Software Category window appears.

  2. Type in a name for the category.

  3. Keep the Active check box selected. Otherwise, this item will be inactive.

  4. Click OK.

• To modify a software category:

  1. Go to the Network Inventory >Software Catalog >Software Categories section.

  2. Select the desired category and click Edit. The Software Category window opens.

  3. Modify the category as needed.

  4. Click OK.

• To delete a software category:

  1. Go to the Network Inventory >Software Catalog >Software Categories section.

  2. Select the desired category and click Delete.

  3. If there are software products associated with the deleted category, the Select Item window appears. In the Software Category drop-down list, select the category where to move all the products and click OK.

• To change the order of software categories:

  1. Go to the Network Inventory >Software Catalog >Software Categories section.

  2. Select the category to move and use the Move Up or Move Down buttons.

Software Category window

In the Software Category window, you can view or modify the software product category settings.

Software Category - the name of the software category.

Active - enables the category for configuring software products. The category appears in the Software Product detail records.
