Configuring Network Device types

You use the Network Inventory > Network Device Types section to manage custom types of network devices.

By default, Network Inventory has several predefined types of the recognized network devices: IPPhone, NAS, Printer, Switch, UPS (for details, see Network Devices grid, All Nodes grid). If you want to monitor other devices, for example, iPads, you can create a corresponding custom type and then manually associate each of the selected devices with this type (for details, see Viewing and Changing Network Node Properties). During the next data upload, specified custom types will not be updated.

You can create, rename and delete custom types of the network devices. In addition, you can set and change their icons.

NOTE: System types of network devices cannot be modified or deleted.

To add a custom network device type:

  1. Click New, the New Network Device Type window opens.

  2. In the Network Device Type field, enter a name for a new type.

  3. To set an icon for the type, click Change. In a separate window, choose the icon and click OK.

  4. Click OK.

To rename a custom network device type:

  1. Select the type to modify and click Edit.

  2. In the Network Device Type field, change the name as needed and click OK.

To change an icon of a custom network device type:

  1. Select the type to modify and click Edit.

  2. Click Change. In a separate window, select the icon to set and click OK.

    NOTE: Using the Clear button, you can clear the configured icons.

To delete a custom network device type:

  1. Select the type to delete and click Delete.

  2. If Network Inventory database stores network devices of this type, the Select Item window appears. In the Network Device Type drop-down list, choose another type for the devices and click OK.

  3. Otherwise, click Yes to confirm the operation.
