Configuring Field Mapping For Computers, Chromebooks and Inventory Items

Alloy Navigator Express uses Inventory Data Mapping when importing audit data from Network Inventory. Inventory Data Mapping is applied to the following operations:

  • Creating new Computers, Chromebooks or Inventory Items for computers and network devices discovered in Network Inventory
  • Updating existing Computer, Chromebook orInventory Item records with the audit data from Network Inventory

All imported audit snapshot attributes correspond to Computer / Inventory Item fields in accordance with the configured mapping rules. The default mapping is usually sufficient, but you can modify or delete default mapping rules or create new rules.

  1. From the Sidebar, navigate to Customization > IT Assets > Computers > Workflow > [Computers / Chromebook] Data Mapping or Customization > IT Assets > Inventory Items > Workflow > Inventory Items Data Mapping.

If you want to specify how audit snapshot's attributes map into the new records’ fields in ANX, navigate to the Field Mapping for New [Computers / Chromebook / Inventory Items] section.

If you want to configure mapping rules for updating records, go to the Field Mapping for Existing [Computers / Chromebook / Inventory Items] section.

  2. Configure the mapping as follows:
    • To add a new mapping rule:
      1. Click New. The Field Mapping dialog box opens.
      2. Select the field name from the Name list.
      3. For updating existing records:

Choose a Replacement Mode. This specifies the condition when the service attribute replaces the ANX object field value. You have the following options:

        • Always — the service attribute always replaces the Computer / Inventory Item field regardless of its value.
        • When Target is empty — the service attribute populates the Computer / Inventory Item field only when that field is blank.
        • When Source has value — the service attribute populates the Computer / Inventory Item field only when the service attribute is not blank. This mode prevents the appearance of null values in the database.
      4. Under Service Attribute, select the audit snapshot attribute from the Name list.
      5. Click OK.
    • To modify an existing mapping rule:
      1. Double-click a rule. The Field Mapping dialog box opens.
      2. Make your changes, then click OK.
    • To delete a mapping rule, select it and click Delete.
    • To restore the default mapping and therefore undo all of your customizations, click Default.
  3. To save your changes, click Save on the toolbar.
