Release Notes

What's new in version 8.7.3

February 2021

Version 8.7.3 is a maintenance release. It expands API integration capabilities, delivers smarter digital workflows, and resolves issues reported in previous versions.

Extended API

  • We have improved our licensing model to provide an even better experience. Starting with this version, you no longer need to waste your precious technician accounts to connect third-party applications to Alloy Navigator Express. Now, you can use "applications" instead. Applications are a new type of Alloy Navigator Express accounts dedicated to providing a security context for external applications integrated via the API.

For instructions, see Settings App Help: Managing applications.

  • Added the ability to run workflow actions via the API on behalf of Self Service Portal customers by using impersonation. This expands our integration capabilities to a wider audience of internal employees and external customers.

For instructions, see API User's Guide: Performing Operations on Behalf of Other Users.

  • Added the ability to search Alloy Navigator Express objects using partial text fragments or keywords.

For instructions, see API User's Guide: Retrieving Objects (GET) and Retrieving Objects (POST).

  • Improved the error message when the request body is missing or invalid.

  • Now the Adjust for daylight saving automatically option is handled correctly. Because of this bug, which affected our mobile applications, Date/Time values were being displayed one hour ahead during winter.

Smarter business logic

  • Resolved the issue with interpreting email responses to approval requests due to the missing "Message ID" tag in the subject line of outgoing email notifications.

  • Resolved the issue with the Move to workflow step actions for moving organizations and locations to new parents.

  • Resolved the issue with Network Inventory Synchronization deleting information about computer owners in some cases.

  • Added the ability to customize links to the Web App and other Alloy web applications from the Setting App. Those links are used in various workflow notifications, so they must contain real URLs. All system link macros now can be customized in a new dedicated section, see Customization > General > Advanced > System Macros.

For instructions, see Settings App Help: Customizing links to Alloy web applications.

Revised Web App

  • Resolved the issue with workflow actions not working when the browser language is set to Spanish (Colombia). The issue could also occur in some other non-English locales.

  • Resolved the issue where the Related Objects map could appear empty after certain customizations to the default workflow.

  • The Vertical option on the Related Objects map now works correctly. Selecting the Vertical check box arranges its elements in a vertical tree pattern, from top to bottom.

  • Now you can specify a depreciation method for multiple IT assets at once. The dialog box for bulk update of Computers, Inventory Items, and Software Licenses contains the Depreciation Method field.

  • Resolved the issue with Integer virtual fields allowing users to enter a decimal point.

  • The Activity grid now applies the Advanced Filter in the web view. Previously, the filter was being applied only when the View as Grid check box is selected.

  • The Web App no longer throws the “Query timeout expired” error when downloading large attachments.

  • Improved filtering performance in data grids.

  • Improved support for HTTP security headers in Alloy web applications.

Hosted edition improvements

  • Optimized the frequency limits on email-related operations for our cloud customers.

Updated audit tools

Alloy Audit Tools has been updated to version 7.0.2. The new version includes these changes:

  • Added support for Apple M1, the latest Apple-designed ARM64 processors.

  • Added support for macOS Big Sur (version 11).

  • Added detection of PCI devices on Linux computers. The new data appears in the Peripherals > PCI Devices section.

  • Expanded the number of detected PCI devices.

  • Added detection of serial numbers for Autodesk AutoCAD 2021.

  • Implemented proper detection of Windows 10, version 20H2, previously known as version 2009.

Other enhancements and resolved issues

  • The "Stock Inventory" report now correctly calculates the total cost of consumables.

  • The Desktop App now allows attaching links when performing step actions. This change resolves the "Conversion failed when converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier" error that could happen in recurring tickets with links attached.

  • Resolved the issue with the Product field being absent on the computer’s full form in the Desktop App. The issue occurred when there were any user-defined fields on the General tab.

  • Resolved the issue when the Network Inventory app could continue to complain about license expiration even after a successful license update.
