Windows Audit

In some cases, the standalone Windows Inventory Analyzer (ina32.exe) may not work as expected. For instance, it may be unable to collect some information about the computer, or in some rare cases it may terminate with an error message. Usually this indicates a problem with the operating system, device driver, or hardware. To resolve such issues, contact Alloy Software Technical Support. Before contacting, you should prepare troubleshooting information for the Technical Support representatives as follows:

Build a debug version of the Inventory Analyzer package and deploy it to a flash drive:

  1. In the Sidebar, right-click the Site and select Properties from the pop-up menu.
  2. Under Audit Sources, click New > Portable. The Portable Audit Source [Source Name] dialog box opens.
  3. Type in a name for the Audit Source.
  4. In the Audit Profile drop-down list, select the Audit Profile that is associated with the Audit Source where the problem has occurred.
  5. Click Apply and then click the Deploy button. The Deploy Folder Location dialog box opens.

  6. Browse to the flash drive folder or another media where you want to deploy your debug package.
  7. Click OK. The created package contains the following files and folders used by the Windows Inventory Analyzer:
    • AuditData the folder in which audit snapshots will be stored.
    • Log the folder in which the Windows Inventory Analyzer will store logged events and debug log files.
    • ina32.cfg the configuration file for the Windows Inventory Analyzer.
    • ina32.exe the Windows Inventory Analyzer executable file.
    • autorun.inf — the file that launches the Windows Inventory Analyzer automatically from a removable media, if the client Windows computer has AutoPlay enabled.
  8. Click OK to close the Portable Audit Source [Source Name] dialog box.
  9. Click OK to close the Site [Site Name] dialog box.
  10. Modify the Windows Inventory Analyzer’s configuration file:
    1. In the deployment folder, open the ina32.cfg file in a text editor.
    2. At the end of the [Options] section, add the following line:


    3. Save the ina32.cfg file.
  11. Run the Windows Inventory Analyzer from the flash drive on the client machine where the problem was encountered.
  12. When the audit finishes, the audit snapshot is saved to the same flash drive in the AuditData folder. The log file and the debug log file are saved in the Log folder.
  13. Compress the AuditData and Log folders into one archive file (for example, using WinZip or WinRAR).
