Database Migration
There are two possible scenarios for database migration.
- If you want to review the new version and try out new features in a test environment, perform a two-step migration: first Migrate to a new database, and then Upgrade the production database.
- If you are ready to immediately begin the production use of Netwok Inventory 8, use a single-step migration: Upgrade the production database.
We recommend consulting with our Professional Services team before making a choice. You can contact Alloy Professional Services team at support@alloysoftware.com.

This optional step imports all your data (i.e. the configuration information and data records) from the production database to a new Netwok Inventory8 database. After that you use this new database for testing while still using your existing system in production. |

When you are ready to begin the production use of Netwok Inventory8, upgrade the production database. All data from your existing production database will be imported to a new Netwok Inventory8 database. Your existing database will be taken offline, renamed, then the new database will take the name of the original database. FOR VERSION 7.2 OR LATER: Upgrading the production database also turns on the Automatic Upgrade feature, which helps distribute client components of the Netwok Inventory8 among your technicians. |
