Database Migration

There are two possible scenarios for database migration.

  • If you want to review the new version and try out new features in a test environment, perform a two-step migration: first Migrate to a new database, and then Upgrade the production database.
  • If you are ready to immediately begin the production use of Network Inventory 8, use a single-step migration: Upgrade the production database.

We recommend consulting with our Professional Services team before making a choice. You can contact Alloy Professional Services team at

This optional step imports all your data (i.e. the configuration information and data records) from the production database to a new Network Inventory8 database. After that you use this new database for testing while still using your existing system in production.

When you are ready to begin the production use of Network Inventory8, upgrade the production database. All data from your existing production database will be imported to a new Network Inventory8 database. Your existing database will be taken offline, renamed, then the new database will take the name of the original database.

FOR VERSION 7.2 OR LATER: Upgrading the production database also turns on the Automatic Upgrade feature, which helps distribute client components of the Network Inventory8 among your technicians.
