Integration with Active Directory

Alloy Navigator Express integrates with the Active Directory for obtaining information about Persons, Organizations, and Locations. In order to access this information, the Active Directory Integration functionality leverages the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP).

A special service, the Active Directory Import tool, keeps customer data in Alloy Navigator Express in synch with the Active Directory, and creates accounts for new customers if needed. If you want to run the Active Directory Import tool regularly, you should schedule an Active Directory Synchronization job. Additionally, you can import user information from Active Directory in the following situations:

  • When creating the Alloy Navigator Express database, you can import information about a person who will administer the Alloy Navigator Express. For details, see Installation Guide: Creating the Alloy Navigator Express Database.

  • When adding a Technician or SSP Customer account with Windows authentication, you can import information about the person associated with that user account.

INFO: For details, see Creating Technician Accounts and Creating SSP Customer Accounts Manually.

NOTE: When attempting to match user information from the Active Directory to Person records in the database, the Active Directory Import tool uses the Person Matching Algorithm. For details on that algorithm, see Person Matching Algorithm.

TIP: If needed, you can untether your Active Directory Synchronization job from the Automation Server and set up its running from the command line. This scenario can be useful for our cloud customers who use an on-premise Active Directory. For details, see Help: Active Directory Import.
