Windows user cannot access your computer from the network

Symptoms

When you attempt to connect to Alloy Navigator, this error message may appear:

Cannot log in to Alloy Navigator.
The Windows account that is used in the Database Access Key (DomainName\UserName) does not have the right to access your computer from the network.
Grant this account the right to log on using the network logon type.

Cause

This issue occurs when the Windows user specified as the Database Account does not have the Access this computer from the network right on your computer. For example, if your organization has a strict security policy, access to computers from the network may be denied by default.

Resolution

To resolve this issue and continue working with Alloy Navigator, allow the Windows user specified as the Database Account to access your computer from the network. See the error message for the user name of the Database Account.

  1. Type gpedit.msc in the Run dialog box to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
  2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment.
  3. Double-click Deny access to this computer from the network and make sure that the Database Account is not included in the list, neither explicitly nor through a group. If it is included in the list, remove it from the list or from the group.
  4. If the issue persists, open the Access this computer from the network policy and add the Database Account explicitly.

TIP: For Alloy Navigator administrators:
Consider adding the Database Account to one of the groups that already has the Access this computer from the network right. This will save you the effort of updating all computers' policies.

More information about the Database Account

The Database Account is a dedicated SQL Server login that all Alloy Navigator users use to access the Alloy Navigator database. Your Alloy Navigator administrator specified this Database Account during the database creation or update.

INFO: For more details on the Database Account, see Database Management - Database Account page.

If your Alloy Navigator administrator chose to use a Database Account with Windows authentication, the corresponding Windows user must have the right to access all computers working with Alloy Navigator from the network.
