Conflict Resolution
Updated in 2024
Conflict resolution is a set of rules designed to prevent data duplication and maintain the accuracy of configuration data during the upload of inventory data from Alloy Discovery or AlloyScan. Read this page to understand how it works and how you can modify conflict resolution rules, if necessary.
During the upload process, the system attempts to match computers from incoming audit data to existing computer records. To prevent duplicates, Alloy Navigator uses the conflict policy. When a potential duplicate of an existing computer record appears, a conflict is detected.
Under Services > Alloy Discovery Integration > Conflict Resolution, you can review the conflict policy, make your changes if necessary, and view and resolve conflicts if they appear.
IMPORTANT: Conflict resolution rules also apply to the AlloyScan Synchronization functionality. For details, see Conflict Policy for AloyScan synchronization.
Conflict Policy for Alloy Discovery synchronization
The conflict policy consists of conflict resolution rules. You can define a number of conflict resolution rules that will be applied between running the two system rules: Equal ID and Default:
-
Equal ID: Checks the ID value, which uniquely identifies the Computer in Alloy Discovery. If a positive match is detected, the audit data overwrites the Alloy Navigator data. Otherwise, Alloy Navigator the subordinate conflict resolution rules are applied. This system rule is always processed first.
-
Default: If none if the preceding rules were triggered, the Discovery Connector creates a new Computer in Alloy Navigator. This rule is always processed last.
Each conflict resolution rule consist of the following components:
-
Conditions to compare existing Computers with new ones imported from Alloy Discovery.
-
Action to perform when the conditions are met.
Rules are applied in the order they are displayed.
If the Conflict Policy section, you can define the conflict policy as follows:
Conflict List
When the Alloy Discovery Connector detects a potential duplicate of an existing Computer record in accordance with the conflict policy, and the respective resolution rule orders manual conflict resolution, a conflict occurs in the Conflict List.
If the Conflict List section, you can work with conflicts as follows:
Conflict Policy for AloyScan synchronization
If you use AlloyScan as the source of inventory data, Alloy Navigator apply the conflict resolution rules designed to Alloy Discovery synchronization to prevent duplicates and ensure the consistency of data.
Please note the following:
-
There is no specific page in the Settings App for "AlloyScan resolution policy" yet. Alloy Navigator applies the policy configured for Alloy Discovery, under Services > Alloy Discovery Integration > Conflict Resolution.
-
No manual conflict resolution for AlloyScan data is supported. If a conflict is detected, a new computer record is created.
-
Conflict resolution rules based on ID and Audit_ID fields are ignored. These fields are specific to Alloy Discovery data.
