Sign-in failed

Symptoms

When attempting to sign in to Alloy Navigator, one of these error messages may appear.

  • Sign-in failed for user 'DOMAIN\UserName'.

  • Sign-in failed for user 'UserName'.

  • Cannot log on as DOMAIN\UserName. The user name or password is incorrect.

  • You are not allowed to sign in to Alloy Navigator with your Okta / Microsoft / Office 365 account 'UserName'.

Cause

This error occurs if the user tries to sign in with credentials that cannot be validated.

Resolution

First, please verify that you have entered your credentials correctly. Make sure that the CAPS LOCK key is turned off and check your keyboard layout.

To provide your credentials properly, check the authentication type of your Alloy Navigator account: Standard, SSO, or Windows. Windows accounts may also leverage LDAP authentication for sign in. Depending on the authentication type, the Sign in dialog box looks differently and expects different user input.

Standard authentication

With Standard authentication, the Sign in dialog box appears. Type in your Alloy Navigator username and password to sign in. The domain name is not required.

If you have Sign in with [SSO Provider] options available but still want to sign in with the password, enter your valid email address in the User Name field, provide your password, and click SIGN IN.

If you forgot your password or when your credentials are correct but the error persists, please contact your Alloy Navigator administrator.

SSO authentication

With Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication, the User Name and Password fields may be missing from the Sign in dialog box. Click a Sign in with [Identity Provider] option to sign in to your Alloy Navigator using the credentials of an external system, such as Okta, Microsoft, Google, ADFS, or another. That external system serves as the identity provider for Alloy Navigator, and securely verifies your identity. You may be redirected to the provider's sign-in page and asked for credentials.

If your credentials are correct but the error persists, please contact your Alloy Navigator administrator.

Windows authentication

With Windows authentication, you do not need to type in your user name and password because the system allows you to sign in to Alloy Navigator automatically using your current Windows credentials.

LDAP authentication

When you use LDAP authentication, the Sign in dialog box appears. You should type in your username and password to sign in. The username must be in the DOMAIN\UserName format.
