Adding records

Updated in 2023.2

The central gateway for creating new object records is the + New option in the menu bar at the top. This menu offers all available actions for creating objects across various classes. Additionally, it conveniently displays recently used actions for quick access.

Alternatively, you can use the + New [Object] submenu on the module menu. This submenu streamlines the process of creating objects within the same class you are currently engaged with. For instance, if you are working in the Change Requests module, you can open the data grid and select + New Change Request to submit a new Change Request. This same submenu is accessible directly from the object detail form for added convenience.

NOTE: All actions for creating objects are configured by your Alloy Navigator administrator.

To add an object record:

  1. To create an object record of any class, click + New on the module menu, and then click the type of object that you want to create. In the Recent section, you can find all recently used commands. To see the list of all available commands, click More. As a result, a fly-out form or wizard opens.

If you want to create an object record of the same class from an object grid or any opened object record, click + New [Object] on the module menu. As a result, a fly-out dialog box or wizard opens.

TIP: Your Alloy Navigator administrator might create a template that populates some fields with initial values.

  2. Fill out the object details as needed. Make sure you have filled out all the mandatory fields (they are marked with red asterisks), otherwise you won't be able to save the record.

  3. If you want to review entered information in a newly created form, click Submit and Open. Otherwise click Submit.

TIP: To create a child record for objects with hierarchical structure (Locations, Organizations, Work Orders), first click the parent object for which you want to create a child record, then click + New > Sub-[Object Type] on the module menu. To create a child record for a Project Task, use the Gantt Chart tab or the Sub-Tasks tab of the Project Task record. For details, see Creating hierarchy of Tasks.
