Creating Tracked Software records

You have to create Tracked Software records for the software for which you want to track license compliance. Tracked Software records contain information about Software Products imported from Alloy Discovery and Software Licenses that you create in Alloy Navigator. For details, see Tracked Software records.

NOTE: A single Tracked Software record can join a number of Software Products (for example, different versions of the same software) and include several Software Licenses.

You create Tracked Software using the corresponding workflow action configured by your Alloy Navigator administrator (see also Adding records). Typically, the action name is Tracked Software. The action is available from several locations.

To create Tracked Software from the Tracked Software grid (Software Asset Management > Tracked Software):

  1. Click New > Tracked Software.

  2. Fill out the fields in the open window to specify the information about the new Tracked Software (at least its name and type), and click OK.

  3. Under Products, click Add to add one or more software products that you want to track.

  4. Under Licenses, click either Add to add one or more software licenses, or New to create a new software license that you want to associate with the newly created Tracked Software .

To create Tracked Software from the Software Catalog grid (Software Asset Management > Software Catalog) or Discovered Installations grid (Software Asset Management > Discovered Installations):

NOTE: These grids are read-only. They contain records loaded from Alloy Discovery. The main difference between them is that the Software Catalog lists only software products, whereas the Discovered Installations also shows computers where each product is installed.

  1. Select one or more software products for which you want to create Tracked Software.

  2. On the Module menu, click New Tracked Software and:

    • To create a single Tracked Software record for all the selected products, point to Create Single Item for All Products, and then click Tracked Software.

    • To create a separate Tracked Software record for each of the selected products, point to Create Multiple Items for Each Product, and then click Tracked Software.

  3. Fill out the fields in the open window to specify the information about the new Tracked Software.
