Managing widgets

Widgets in Alloy Navigator are informative panels that are displayed within dashboards in the Desktop App and Web App. The main purpose of widgets is providing users with various information that may be useful for them to see on dashboards.

There are many types of widgets: Chart, Table, Links, etc. All created widgets are shared, which means that you can create a widget once and use it in multiple dashboards.

NOTE: For details on different types of widgets, see Widget types.

When creating or modifying a dashboard, you specify a set of default widgets, which will be displayed within the dashboard by default, and a wider set of widgets potentially available in the dashboard. Technicians working in the Desktop App will be able to replace the default widgets with any of the available ones, as well as customize their position within a dashboard.

NOTE: Currently, dashboard customization is not available in the Web App.

The location of each widget on the dashboard is determined by its position in a dashboard layout. A dashboard layout is a grid of cells, i.e. a combination of rows and columns. Each dashboard has its own layout, which you specify when creating or modifying a dashboard. Additionally, you can create reusable layouts, which can be quickly applied to any dashboard.

NOTE: For details on managing dashboards and widgets within them, seeManaging dashboards.

You manage widgets in the General > Dashboard Management > Widgets section, which contains the [Widget Type] subsections for all supported types.

Typical operations that can be performed with widgets are the following:

Configuring widgets of different types is described within corresponding subsections of the Widget types section.
