Authentication types

The authentication type determines how Alloy Navigator validates account credentials. Alloy Navigator supports both Windows and Standard authentication types.

Authentication Type Description

Windows Authentication

With Windows authentication, users do not need to type their user name and password to log on to Alloy Navigator because the system authenticates users with their current Windows credentials. This authentication method can be used in Windows domain-based networks only.

Standard Authentication

With Standard Authentication, each user has to type their user name and password to log on to Alloy Navigator. In this case, authentication occurs by matching supplied credentials against accounts residing in Alloy Navigator. Standard Authentication can be used in any network.

NOTE: With any of the above authentication types, you can use LDAP Authentication to avoid duplicating user accounts in Alloy Navigator.
