What's New in Version 2021.2.1

February 2022

Version 2021.2.1 is a maintenance release. It improves security and performance, resolves issues reported in previous versions, and updates audit tools.

User authentication

  • Resolved the issue with Single Sign-On (SSO) not working with Google and some other OpenID Connect identity providers.

  • Addressed the issue with a legacy authentication option which was removed in version 2021.2. Local domain users no longer can sign in to the Web App or Mobile App configured for Standard authentication by specifying their Windows credentials unless the administrator enables LDAP authentication for that domain.

INFO: For details, see Removal of the legacy authentication option.

Web App

  • Fixed the issue with the cursor jumping to the bottom of the text box each time the user types in a character. The issue could occur in Mozilla Firefox when editing ticket descriptions on full forms.

  • Resolved the issue with unlinking the asset from its purchase order after making edits on the full form of an asset.

  • Restored the ability to jump to the corresponding purchase orders from the Finance tab of Asset records by clicking the Show Preview icon next to the Purchase Order field.

  • Resolved the issue that caused the "Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'IS'" error when attempting to open object records. The issue affected only databases hosted on SQL Server 2008.

  • Resolved the issue with the "All Time" date range throwing an "Error converting data type nvarchar to datetime" error in reports when the SQL Server environment is set to a non-English locale.

  • Resolved the issue with Date fields throwing an "Invalid Date Format" error when attempting to enter two-digit months or days.

  • Resolved the issue with the Description field being read-only for auto-created tickets when setting up Recurrent Ticket jobs.

  • Addressed the issue with duplicating the Default view when the connection to the SQL Server is unstable.

Self Service Portal

  • Buttons on the toolbar no longer overlap each other when there is a large number of ticket create actions. Now when all buttons can fit on the toolbar, scroll buttons appear.

  • Fixed the issue when the Self Service Portal could include inactive announcements in search results. Now all inactive objects (such as closed tickets, retired equipment, or inactive announcements) are hidden from Self Service Portal customers and cannot be accessed via search or otherwise.

  • Long category names in the Service Catalog no longer overlap when they take more than one line

  • The generic category "All Services" has been pinned to the top of the Service Catalog category tree, where it is expected to be.

API module

  • Addressed security vulnerability in the API module.

  • Improved the error message when requests contain an unsupported "multipart/form-data" content type.

Email integration

  • Addressed issues with discontinued support for 32-bit versions of Microsoft Outlook in version 2021. This change is a part of our transition to 64-bit architecture in version 2021.1.

INFO: For details, see The transition from 32-bit to 64-bit architecture.

Business logic and workflow

  • Resolved the issue with workflow actions and triggers failing to run some PowerShell scripts after those workflow items were exported and then imported to Alloy Navigator.

  • The workflow engine now correctly runs Act on Related Object loop operations when objects are related via a sibling relationship (for example, "connected"). Previously, such operations skipped objects whose relationship with the main object had been added not from the main object's form but their own forms.

Import

  • The Import tool now correctly imports Purchase Order items, populates all mapped fields, and creates new Product records and units of measure when needed.

Updated audit tools

Alloy Audit Tools has been updated to version 2022.1. The new version includes these changes:

  • Added support for macOS Monterey (version 12).

  • Added detection of serial numbers for the following products:
    • Microsoft Windows 11
    • Microsoft Office 2021
    • Microsoft Visio 2021
    • Microsoft Project 2021
    • Microsoft Visual Studio 2022

  • Resolved the issue with the Audit Snapshot Viewer failing to show Chromebook snapshots and throwing an "The .adt file contains corrupted data" error.

  • Resolved the issue with the Linux Inventory Analyzer failing to obtain serial numbers on computers running CentOS.

Chromebook audit

  • Alloy Discovery no longer eats up your audit licenses for Chrome devices you have disposed of. All Chromebooks you deprovision in your Google Admin console are deleted from the database during the next sync cycle.

Reports

  • Since Alloy products only support SSRS reports based on embedded datasets, we added an informative error message explaining why running reports based on shared datasets fails and suggesting a workaround.

Desktop app

  • Imported changes to workflow items and components now apply immediately. Previously, workflow could remain unaware of imported changes until the Desktop App is restarted.
