Configuring FTP Audit Sources

This article describes how to set up an audit source for the remote audit with FTP delivery.
You configure a FTP Audit Source when you create a new Site, or create or modify an Audit Source within an existing Site.
NOTE: FTP Audit Sources serve for the Remote Audit with FTP delivery. For details, seeRemote Audit with FTP delivery
To create an FTP Audit Source:

In the Sidebar, right-click the Site where you want to create the source and choose Properties from the pop-up menu. The Site [Site Name ] window opens.

Under Audit Sources, click New > FTP.

Fill out the source details in the FTP Audit Source [Source Name] window.

Choose how to deliver the audit agent to the computers you want audited. You can use any or both of these options:

For Windows and macOS computers:
Create an installable audit agent and install it on every computer you want audited.
To create the installer right now, optionally change the default agent schedules for Windows and/or macOS, click Create Installer, select the platforms, and choose where to save the installation package.
TIP: You can skip this step now and create the installer later. For details, see Installing the Audit Agent for FTP Delivery.

For Windows, Linux, and macOS computers:
Create an Inventory Analyzer package, deploy it to remote networks, and automate the audit using domain logon scripts or scheduled tasks.
To build the Inventory Analyzer package right now, click Create Package, select which audit agents your package will include, and browse to the destination folder.
TIP: You can skip this step now and create the package later. For details, see Preparing Inventory Analyzer packages for FTP Audit Sources.

To edit the properties of an existing FTP Audit Source:

In the Sidebar, right-click the desired Site and then choose Properties from the pop-up menu. The Site [Site Name ] window opens.

Under Audit Sources, double-click the desired source.

Modify the source as needed in the FTP Audit Source [Source Name] window.

Choose how to deliver the audit agent to the computers you want audited. You can use any or both of these options:

FTP Audit Source [Source Name ] window
The properties of the source are shown in the FTP Audit Source [Source Name ] window and organized on the following tabs: General and FTP.
General tab
On this tab, you view and modify the general properties of the source.

Site Tag - displays the tag of the Site to which the audit source belongs. You can not edit this field.

Name - shows the name of the source.

Audit Profile - specifies the Audit Profile to use. You can choose the audit profile either in the drop-down list or in the Select Audit Profile window that opens on clicking the ellipsis button . To modify the audit profile, click the ellipsis button , in the opened window, double-click the desired audit profile from the list, modify the profile as needed, and click OK. To create a new audit profile, click the ellipsis button , click New, define the profile, and click OK.

Audit Agent Installer section - this is where you can create an installable audit agent for Windows and macOS. For details, see Installing the audit agent for FTP delivery.

Package section - clicking Create Package allows you to prepare an Inventory Analyzer package for this audit source. For details, see Preparing Inventory Analyzer package for an FTP Audit Source.
IMPORTANT: You can deploy the Inventory Analyzer package only after configuring all required source properties (general details, incoming server details, and outgoing server details) and clicking Apply. Heretofore the Create Package and the Create Installer buttons are deactivated.
FTP tab
Outgoing Server for the Audit Agent
This section allows you to specify the settings for the server in the remote network, which the Inventory Analyzer will use for sending the audit results.

Server Type - the type for the server: SFTP or FTP (If your FTP server uses secure connection, select the Use SSL/TLS check box. If your server has the passive mode enabled, select the Passive Mode check box.).

SSL/TLS - enables SSL/TLS for the FTP server.

Passive mode - enables passive mode for the non-secure FTP connection.

Server Name - the name of your outgoing server.

Port - the port number of the server. By default, the port number is 22; for secure connection via SFTP. For non-secure connection via FTP, the default port number is 21. For secure connection via FTP, the default port number is 990.

Directory- the directory for sending the audit snapshots.

Username - the username of the account on the server.

Password - the password of the account on the server.

Test Settings - verifies that Alloy Discovery can connect to the specified server.
Incoming Server for audit snapshots
This section allows you to view and modify the settings for a FTP / SFTP server that handles the receiving of the audit snapshots.
Use same settings as my Outgoing Server -enables the Inventory Analyzer to use the same server for sending audit results as for receiving audit snapshots.

Server Type - the account type for the server: SFTP or FTP (If your FTP server uses secure connection, select the Use SSL/TLS check box. If your server has the passive mode enabled, select the Passive Mode check box.).

Passive mode - enables passive mode for non-secure FTP server.

Port - the port number of the server. By default, the port number is 22; for secure connection via SFTP. The default port number is 21, for non-secure connection via FTP. For secure connection via FTP, the default port number is 990.

Directory - the directory where the audit snapshots are received from.

Username - the username of the account on the server.

Password - the password of the account on the server.

Test Settings - checks the server connection using the specified settings.
Check server for new audit snapshots every... section - specifies the time interval for auto-checking the catalog for audit snapshots. You can disable auto-checking.
