General preferences
With general preferences, you can customize the general behavior of your Desktop App to suit your needs. For example, you can configure the startup behavior for the Desktop App.
Options window - General tab
You use the General tab of the Options window to customize the general behavior of the Desktop App. To access the Options window, select Tools > Options from the main menu.
Startup section - specifies what the Desktop App displays whenever it starts, the Dashboard or a Collection (for details, see Specifying the startup location):
Startup section - indicates what the Network Inventory application will display on each launch, dashboard or collection
Dashboard - shows the dashboard.
All Computers - shows All Computers collection.
All Chromebooks - shows All Chromebooks collection.
All Network Devices - shows All Network Devices collection.
Close Options section - specifies whether a confirmation dialog box appears before exiting the application.
Confirm before exiting the application - enables a confirmation dialog box, which appears when you click the exit button "x" in the upper-right corner of the application window or press ALT+F4 on the keyboard and asks you if you really want to close the application.
NOTE: This option applies both to the Alloy Discovery Desktop App and Settings App.
Preferred IP Address section - specifies which IP address the Desktop App shows in the views (for details, see Specifying preferred IP address):
IPv4 - shows the IPv4 as preferred IP address.
IPv6 - shows the IPv6 as preferred IP address.
Applying general preferences

Specifying the startup location
You can configure what Alloy Discovery will display whenever it starts.
To change Alloy Discovery's startup location:

Select Tools > Options from the main menu. The Options window opens.

Under Startup, select one of the following options:

Dashboard - shows the dashboard.
- All Computers - shows All Computers Collection.

All Network Devices - shows All Network Devices Collection.

Click OK. The next time you start Alloy Discovery, you will see the new startup location.

Enabling or disabling a confirmation before exiting
You can configure Alloy Discovery to display a confirmation dialog box before exiting the application. This dialog box appears when you click the "x" button in the upper-right corner of the application window or press ALT+F4 on the keyboard and asks you if you really want to close the application.
To enable or disable a confirmation before exiting:

Select Tools > Options from the main menu.

Under Close Options, select or clear the Confirm before exiting the application check box.

Click OK.
NOTE: This option applies both to the Alloy Discovery Desktop App and Settings App.

Specifying preferred IP address
You can configure which IP address Alloy Discovery will display in different views when both the IPv4 and IPv6 are detected.
To change Alloy Discovery's preferred IP address:

Select Tools > Options from the main menu. The Options window opens.

Under Preferred IP address, select one of the following options:

IPv4 - shows IPv4 as preferred IP address.
- IPv6 - shows IPv6 as preferred IP address

Click OK. The next time you start Alloy Discovery, its views will display selected IP address.

Enabling auto-refresh:
You can configure Alloy Discovery to automatically refresh the data on a grid or in an open record at specified time intervals.
To enable auto-refresh:

Select Tools > Options from the main menu.

Under Auto Refresh, select the Refresh data every check box.
If you want to disable auto-refresh, clear the check box.

Enter the time interval in minutes for auto-refreshing data. The minimum is 1 minute and the maximum is 60 minutes.
