Audit agents

Alloy Discovery's audit agent, the Inventory Analyzer, captures the information about hardware configurations and installed software, and produces audit snapshots. There are three platform-dependant versions of the Inventory Analyzer:

• Windows Inventory Analyzer
• Linux Inventory Analyzer
• Mac Inventory Analyzer

Alloy Discovery employs its audit agents in two modes: built-in and standalone.

Using audit agents in the built-in mode

The build-in mode does not require preliminary installation of audit agents on remote computers. Alloy Discovery runs audit agents from the server, interrogating client computers remotely. In order for the built-in mode to work, remote computers should be accessible over the local network.

Alloy Discovery uses the built-in mode to perform Direct Network Scan of Windows, Linux, and macOS computers on the internal network.

Using audit agents in the standalone mode

The standalone mode involves deploying audit agents onto the client side. Alloy Discovery uses the standalone mode to perform audit of Windows, Linux, and macOS computers in the local network, in remote networks, or offsite and non-networked computers.

Alloy Discovery offers these audit methods for standalone audit agents:

• Remote Audit
• Network Folder Audit
• Portable Audit

All of those methods involve these two steps:

1. Deployment of the standalone audit agents to a target location. That target location could be a network share, a flash drive, or a client computer itself.

2. Running the audit from that deployment location.
